Inner Glow

Incoming: the obligatory “New Year, New Me” blog post on New Years Eve, no less. Trust me, I hate nothing more than to be a cliche but this is a necessary evil. This one is also going to be all over the place so bear with me.. I don’t just want to talk about better skin habits, I want to discuss mindset and wellness going into this New Year, because I truly believe these play a huge role in how we look and feel. Better skin habits, a solid treatment plan, and consistent regimen will always be key but prioritizing your mindset and being authentic to yourself, will give you that “glow from within” that ya just can’t get from skincare.

During this time off, I myself have had a major shift in mindset… naturally, this time of year comes with a lot of self-reflection but I realized I have always prided myself on marching to the beat of my own drum and it’s not that I feel I have fully fell away from that but- I’ve definitely been slipping. I’m grateful I can recognize these things rather quickly but I know some of you may not be so lucky, so I thought this may be a good opportunity to share some thoughts that I’m sure many can relate to… because I think the simple “you’re not alone” can be more powerful than we realize.

Having a strong sense of self can be a struggle in the age of Instagram and TikTok, ESPECIALLY in this industry and ESPECIALLY during the holiday season. In this world of retail “hauls”, the need to “keep up with the Joneses” and need for luxury is definitely at an all time high… and while I am a huge believer in investment pieces and I say “YOLO” (do people still say that?) with my credit card more than I’d like to admit, I think evaluating the “why do I want this” or “why do I want to portray this” is really important to recognize. When we start being unkind to ourselves, or wanting items, vacations, or cars, just to appear a certain way to other people- that’s an issue. That inauthenticity is not sustainable and it will wear on you mentally and eventually, physically.

Don’t get me wrong, this stuff can be fun… I love to joke that I am like Carrie Bradshaw in the early seasons, ya know before she’s super successful but slapping Manolos on her credit card and storing clothes in her oven because she just loves fashion and it brought her joy- so what’s the harm in that? (side note: if you didn’t watch Sex and the City, I lost you there) Anyway, it’s when the comparison and lack of individuality start creeping into the equation that it all starts to feel icky. I also am not going to claim that I will never slap another Gucci crossbody on my credit card again- I definitely will. I just want to be more introspective and mindful about these big purchases, and not do it because this influencer just did a haul, or this insta-famous esti is dripping in Cartier, or because “I need to look more successful”.

I think we all can agree overconsumption has been at an all-time high but with that now comes a lot of “de-influencing” where you see the opposite end of the spectrum, people are preaching that you don’t need new clothes every month, a new purse every season, a grey and beige pinterest worthy apartment or a brand new car. (heavy on team no car payment lol) Plus all this controversy about this Walmart Birkin, if you know you know, and the rise of quiet luxury, is really starting to blur the lines of the exclusivity. As with anything, it’s all about balance, being sure you aren’t doing anything beyond your means, especially at the sacrifice of your individuality. So next time you find yourself wanting something for all the wrong reasons just remember, being yourself is always in style- it’s fucking timeless and will give you a glow no serum can achieve.

Now that tangent is out of the way, what do I suggest we prioritize in 2025? Taking a step back from materialism, I think it only makes sense to make smarter investments in yourself and your health. What better way than with a wellness and skin health journey?

In case you haven’t heard, to display the power of consistency and homecare we came up with a competition at Exhibit for 2025, our Glow into the New Year Visia Challenge. All participants will get a regimen in January at 20% off and get 3 monthly treatments of their and their aesthetician’s choice (January through March). A Visia skin analysis will be done in January and again once the third treatment is completed (March or April depending on treatment and possible downtime). The patient with the most improvement will win an Omnilux light therapy device! We thought this would be a fun way to motivate you guys to step up your skin game!

Now with overconsumption trending down, and the holiday rush coming to an end, we have the time to focus on our health and our skin. Eating off the rails during the holiday and being too busy to take care of my skin is starting to show, so I look forward to the reset that comes along with a New Year. If you find yourself in the same boat here are some simple ways I plan to reset my skin health, mind, and wellness journey in 2025:

-Kickstart my skin with a series of collagen boosting treatments, peels or microneedling, and supplement with a deep cleaning facial every 4-6 weeks, doing my own Visia challenge!!

-Redo bloodwork to see where hormone and vitamin levels are at, adjust lifestyle and nutrition accordingly

-BRING LUNCH TO WORK and DRINK MORE WATER AT WORK lol

-Monitor my steps and stay consistent with some light strength training

-Limit screen time, as I know this often leads to spending for me

-Read more! I want to read more for work and pleasure, always staying sharp on the industry changes and education opportunities, and reading fiction before bed to wind down

These are just a few attainable lifestyle changes that I know will make a big impact on my mindset, skin health and wellness. Here’s to continued growth, self awareness, introspection AND glowing skin in 2025. Cheers guys!
